credit repair scam warning sign #1

Offer to Create a New Credit Report

It doesn't matter if they claim to have a secret in with a credit bureau, know of a legal loophole to creating a new credit file, or claim to be able to trick the credit bureau in a way that is 100% fail-proof, trying to create a new credit report is never a good idea.

Yes, it is possible. By creating a "second" Social Security number, people have been able to trick the credit bureaus into creating a new credit report under their name but using the new number. This report is completely free of any negative listings such as bankruptcies and repossessions that are listed on their true credit report. In fact, it is completely empty altogether.

What may seem like a harmless way to game the system becomes much more serious when you try to put your new credit identity to use. Falsifying your Social Security number on a credit application, which is what you have to do in order to use your new credit reports, is a crime. Obtaining and using credit under false pretenses can also lead to criminal fraud charges on the local and federal levels.

Never attempt to create a second credit report for yourself or trust a credit repair company that claims to be able to help you do so. A company that claims to be able to get you a new credit file is a sure sign of a credit repair scam and with this kind of scam, you stand to lose a lot more than just your money.
