Are there any tricks to getting a collection removed from my credit report?
I have a collection from a little while ago that is hurting my credit score. The amount that was sent to collections was pretty small (less than $100) and other that that, my credit reports are pretty good.Answers...
If you usually make all your payments on time, which it sounds like you do since you said your credit reports are mostly clean, you may be able to get the collection removed simply by asking.
The trick is to get the collection agency to feel bad for you. Send them a letter that says something like:
Dear Sir/Madam,
A couple of years ago I had a miscommunication with my internet service provider where I thought my account had been closed but they kept billing me. Because I was not willing to pay for the unwanted service, they sent the bill to your collection agency. I went ahead and paid off the collection. Now I am trying to get into a home and am having a hard time getting a good interest rate because of the collection on my credit report. I'm writing to ask if you would consider removing the collection from my credit report so I have a better chance of getting into a nice home for my family.
Thank you for your consideration,

Worst case scenario, they say no. And if they do, there are still other options available but since this is the easiest, you might as well start by playing nice.

Settle the debt and ask for a debt removal letter. Not a debt paid letter. If they don't comply(they prob won't), then you are still ok. At least the collection shows paid. Shouldn't hurt you as far as obtaining credit in the future.

I have Multiple Sclerosis which in layman terms, which I am a layman, just a patient, mean in latin 'multiple scars'. I used to be tall and 305 pounds. 305 very lean, very muscular, very vascular pounds. I had prayed about getting better physically. I had prayed about getting better financially because literally you can't have one without the other. There is no way. There's no shortcuts to it. You can have great health but if your finances are shot, your credit specifically, then that's it. You're not going to have an actual real life.... moreCory Reeves
