What do I do if the credit bureau verifies an inaccurate listing?
I sent in a request for verification letter to Experian and they verified that a late payment on my credit report was being reporting correctly but it isn't. I was never late.Answers...
You can try disputing the late payment again with Experian using a different reason from the last time ("Not mine" vs. "Wasn't late"), but it may just get verified as accurate again or the dispute could be rejected for being frivolous.
Another option is to dispute the late payment with the original creditor. A lot of creditors do not keep very good records of things like late payments so there is a decent chance that they will not be able to prove that a payment was made late, even if it was. If they can't prove it, they have to remove it from your credit report.

Disputing the late payment with the original creditor is always a good option. A lot of creditors only keep records of things like late payments going back a year so if the late payment happened 12 months or more ago, they wouldn't be able to prove it. Also consider the number of companies that have been purchased, gone out of business or merged with other companies recently. A lot of data can get lost when information has to be moved from place to place. Even if you have late payments or other negative listings on your credit reports that are definitely your's, you might as well try disputing them as long as they are not accounts where you currently owe something.

I have a collection from a little while ago that is hurting my credit score. The amount that was sent to collections was pretty small (less than $100) and other that that, my credit reports are pretty good.

I signed up with Lexington Law about 1 1/2 years ago at the suggestion of a man I did not know as I was waiting in line at the bank. He heard me talking about my bad credit, and how my life had literally been ruined and I couldn't even get an apartment. He told me about Lexington Law on the internet and told me he had signed up and that it was the best thing he had ever done. He explained that it would take more than a year, maybe longer but that it would be well worth the investment and that slowly, over time, it would become apparent that my credit history really was improving. I have made bad choices in my past that directly affected my credit. However, I have matured and knew I needed to do something legally but was afraid I could never afford an attorney to clean up my credit. ... moreCarol
